Owners Erin Birukow and Robyn Dix met through a popular dog-sitting site while trying to find a house sitter for their own pups.

“We became best friends through our passion for animals. At one point, we turned to each other and said, ‘Why aren’t we doing this ourselves?’” said Birukow.

It was then that they decided to open ‘Can I Get a Ruff Ruff?’ a petting sitting service that cares for all animals, including dogs, cats, pigs, ducks, snakes and, most recently, a puffer fish.

“We offer dog walking, overnight visits and drop ins valley-wide. We treat each pet like they are our own and are constantly sending high-quality photo updates to the owner. We also try to follow the routine of the dog as best as possible,” says Birukow.

As an extra layer of precaution, owners can rest assured knowing exactly who is caring for their pet.

“Meet and greets are required for first-time customers. It helps us make sure it’s a good fit for the dog, and that you know exactly who will be at your house,” she explains. “It’s always one of us and a backup person in case something happens, so you meet both people just to be safe.”

In addition to the amount of care and professionalism the women display, the biggest differentiator over other services is that ‘Can I Get a Ruff Ruff?’ welcomes aggressive dogs.

“My dog, Bella, is aggressive, and it was hard to find places that would watch her.  That’s why we accept all dogs and work with the ones who are aggressive,” said Birukow.

How do they it? Patience and meeting the dog on its own terms.

“We’ll do as many meetups as possible for the dog to feel comfortable with us. We watch for the signs of aggression like having their tail between their legs or sudden lunging so we can understand the cause, said Dix. “A dog will always tell you when it does and doesn’t want to be touched.”

One of the most popular services offered is the doggie adventures for extra enrichment. That’s right! In the summer the company offers swimming, and in the fall, activities like hiking and going to the dog park.

Dix and Birukow are also the creators of an all-natural dog treat line that they sell at the Downtown Chandler Farmers Market.

“We started doing research and found there is a lot of unhealthy stuff in jerky and other treats.

Birukow shared. “We created dog treats that don’t have filers, by-products or additives, so they are as pure as possible.”
