Chandler launches “Dine in the Park” initiative to support Downtown businesses
Starting at noon Friday, May 22, the City of Chandler will kick off a new initiative called “Dine in the Park.” For the many patrons who order carryout meals from Downtown eateries, when they order wine or beer to go they will now have the option to enjoy it in the park.
The “Dine in the Park” hours are from 3–9 p.m. Monday–Thursday and noon–9 p.m. Friday–Sunday. Beer and wine may only be consumed within the specified boundaries of Dr. A.J. Chandler Park West, which are from Boston to Buffalo streets along Arizona Avenue and within the Courtyard at the corner of San Marcos Place and Commonwealth Avenue.
“This initiative was created as a way to provide additional capacity for local restaurants as they adapt to restrictions imposed due to COVID-19,” said Chandler Mayor Kevin Hartke. “I commend City staff from multiple departments, including the Chandler Police, Community Services and the Cultural Development departments as well as the Downtown Chandler Community Partnership, for their work on this initiative. I’m also grateful to the public for continuing to support local businesses during this time.”
“Dine in the Park” was made possible by designating a portion of the park as a Public Recreation Area by the City and through the Governor’s Executive Orders allowing for the take-out and delivery of alcoholic beverages. Glass containers are prohibited. It is expected that this initiative will conclude when liquor license controls for the sale and consumption of alcoholic beverages resume.
In addition, the Wave, a free shuttle that serves the Downtown area, will start their services once again at 5 p.m. Thursday, May 21. The shuttle can take visitors from surrounding parking garages to their favorite Downtown businesses, including Dr. A.J. Chandler Park. For more information on the Wave, visit Downtown Chandler.
