Downtown Chandler’s Third Thursday Event Returns with Holiday Twist
Gift Shopping Opportunities from Local Artists, Live Music, LED Performances and More
CHANDLER, Ariz. – This month’s Third Thursday event, which occurs in Downtown Chandler every third Thursday from 6-9 p.m., is embracing the holiday season with a jolly theme. On Dec. 18, the free-to-attend monthly celebration will feature plentiful festive items and personalized gift options from local artisan vendors, making it easy for guests to support Valley businesses this season. The Downtown Chandler district is fully decorated with installations like illuminated Christmas trees, giant gumdrops and a giant chocolate sleigh, as part of an art installation called Holiday Magic featuring Sugarland.
Trumpeter Dr. Jesse McGuire and Vinyl DJ Julian French will set a merry atmosphere with live holiday music performances, and performers will dazzle guests with glittering LED lollipops and hula hoops. Local artist Danielle Peterson will conduct a live painting session, and attendees creatively inspired to leave their mark can contribute to a community art project, in which guests can make their own snowflake to create a blizzard of artwork displayed throughout the event.
Nearly 40 market vendors will be in attendance on Dec. 18, including Smoke & Mirrors Design, Second Sun Threads, Mike and Art Design, and Magnetic Recollections.
Third Thursday is a monthly celebration of creativity, culture and community in the heart of Downtown Chandler held from October through May. The evening event regularly features shopping opportunities from local artists, handmade crafts for guests of all ages, live musical performances, interactive exhibits, and pop-up experiences that transforms the area into a vibrant, walkable, accessible community art gallery of various mediums. The event gives a platform to established artists, as well as up-and-coming students to present their work and reach new audiences.
“When we initially created this event, we were driven by a desire to keep art within reach for everyone in the community,” said Maddi Miloscia, events manager at the Downtown Chandler Community Partnership. “Third Thursdays are not only a place for attendees to support local talent, but exists as a creative outlet for those looking to be part of something beautiful. People come together for the sake of creating something and get hands-on. It turns our neighbors into collaborators and ideas into tangible pieces of art.”
Sponsors for Third Thursday include Lifetime Home Remodeling, Semper Fi Heating & Cooling and ShelfGenie. The Chandler City Council has also graciously helped fund each Third Thursday event, ensuring that Downtown Chandler can continue to spotlight artists in the community.
